With the increased focus on accountability, teacher educators have a critical role in preparing teacher candidates with the requisite knowledge and skills to effectively educate students with diverse needs. Because the revised Illinois Professional Teaching Standards and Teacher Performance Assessment embody the key principles of MTSS, it is the responsibility of teacher preparation programs to provide meaningful coursework and field experiences that enable teacher candidates to learn and apply the most effective teaching practices (instructional planning and design, data-based decision making, etc.)
